Sese's day Friday 11/27/09

Selena had a great day of dancing on Friday of Oireachtas in the girls U10 solo competition. She danced very well in her hard shoe and soft shoe round and was recalled (the top 1/2 of all the dancers in each group are recalled - which is the main goal at Oireachtas)!

Her set dance was wonderful and we were all very happy that she had such a great day.

We were able to go back to the hotel room and relax and eat before awards - at awards we were the most excited/nervous - waiting for results.

Of 54 placements, Selena's finish was 28th! The top 14 in her group qualified for worlds - our goal this year was to qualify for Nationals which we believe her finish will do!

Today we slept in and drove around Columbus, visiting a very nice nearby town, Dublin -

Back to the competition tomorrow -- the scene of a big feis is similar to a scene from Ivanhoe:

Knights, with a long retinue of their squires,

In gaudy liveries march and quaint attires;

One laced the helm, another held the lance,

A third the shining buckler did advance.

The courser paw'd the ground with restless feet,

And snorting foam'd and champ'd the golden bit.

Oireachtas preparing: shoes...

one of our favorite hymns:

Take my life, and let it be consecrated, Lord, to Thee.
Take my moments and my days; let them flow in ceaseless praise.
Take my hands, and let them move at the impulse of Thy love.
Take my feet, and let them be swift and beautiful for Thee.

what I have been up to: 11_10_09

We are in the nice final days of fall - memories of the Armistice Day Blizzard back in the 60s -

I am hoping to clear out the garage - our dancefloor 1.0 has found a new home and will be picked up on Thursday. I found a new home for the dining set and insisted that Dustin take a nice captains chair. We also sold our nice mission rocker that we rocked Sonja and Seesee in -- we just don't have room for big blonky furniture anymore --

We still have a massive 200 lb. "exersaucer" as I call it - and a blonky clunky office chair that has historic value, as it was made in the 1920s for the U of M.

I have all my electronics out in the garage, I hope to do a little tinkering out there this winter - still hoping to find a place to use my tubes in the house... we hope to redeem our downstairs guest room this winter...

Speaking of electronics, I parted with one of my vintage systems - a big pioneer and a pair of big floor speakers - we just didn't need it, so I sold it easily on craigslist.

I am working on some new tunes on my box - mainly reels - I hope to have something ready for the 'tube - as I haven't posted anything lately.

We are excited and looking forward to our Thanksgiving road trip to Columbus OH for the Midwest Oireachtas Nov 24 - Dec. 1 -- Sonja and Selena have been practicing like crazy - we hope "the end crowns the work" as we say in the Blue Stars --
